I Hate Technology… And I’m an IT guy

Broken Software Updates

Software developers diligently work to improve their products, but oftentimes all we see are the problems. At worst, a feature that works correctly becomes unstable or broken after an upgrade. Incredibly frustrating. How many times have you used a product – operating systems, backup software,

cell phones, or even game systems that break a feature you rely on? It drives me crazy. This doesn’t happen (often) with hardware components. Imagine a car that gets an update that won’t let you start the engine, or turn left. Do you worry about that with future vehicles that are completely controlled by software? I do.

And the resolution? Revert to the old software (if you are even allowed to do that), use the solution as is without your feature, or wait for the development team to release a new patch to add the feature back. All due to increased constraints on developers, constant pushing for new updates, and limited budgets for  development and quality assurance testing. And honestly, our acceptance of it all.

PC Results can help businesses make better strategic decisions about software upgrades. Including upgrading in a sandbox, testing for software problems, or deciding not to upgrade at the moment, and waiting for a better time. Give us a call – we can help.
